In 2005, Karen Stark accepted the Golden Age Games award on behalf of all members of The Hugs Project.
Also in 2005, Karen received the national Symphony of Service award
from the National VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority chose Karen as their 2006 Diana Award recipient.
Karen was selected as the 2007 L’Oreal Paris “Woman of Worth” in a national internet vote.
President George W. Bush delivered a Presidential Service Award to Karen in 2008 when
they met under the wing of Air Force One at Tinker AFB.
We had a photo up on this page showing that but a legal firm threatened us with a lawsuit if it wasn’t removed.
This award belongs to all members of The Hugs Project without whom this project would not exist. Karen just picked it up in their honor.
She has now met 4 of our 5 living Presidents. She met Jimmy Carter on a plane coming back from Japan when she and her husband, Ray were stationed in Yokosuka, Japan. Met Barack Obama at a VFW convention in Reno, NV and she was thrilled to meet George H.W. Bush when she and Ray were chosen as the Points of Light honoree at a Kennedy Center tribute held for him in 2010. Clinton was at the same event but didn’t circulate or shake hands.
Also in 2010, Karen was the Oklahoma Integris Health Woman Making a Difference and then became Integis 2011 National Community Hero in Action.
2012 Karen was selected as one of Oklahoma’s Ladies in the News.
Karen says, “None of these honors mean as much as when a Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Marine or Guardsman comes by the office to express their personal thanks. They are why we continue doing this project”.
Silver Wings is a national, co-ed, professional organization dedicated to creating proactive, knowledgeable, and effective civic leaders through community service and education about national defense. They selected Karen as their 2014 Honorary National President.
